Court Remands Two In Prison Over Kidnapping

Two middle aged men
have been remanded in prison custody by a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court for  alleged kidnapping and armed robbery offences with charge sheet number PMC/211/14.
The accused persons are standing trial on four court charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, stealing and other criminal offences before chief magistrate Emmanuel C. Woke.
The police prosecuting officer, Inspector Edward Ojiezele told the court that the accused persons, Chime Nwokocha 23, and Edidiong Akpan, 22 and others at large on the 21st November, 2013 along Aluu Bye Pass after police check point, East West Road in the Port Harcourt magistrate district did conspired amongst themselves to commit felony to wit: kidnapping.
The police prosecutor also to the court that the accused persons on the same date and place while armed with AK 47 riffles and other dangerous weapons and with intent to demand ransom, did kidnapped one Amifor Prisca and Amifor Uzochi unlawfully imprisoned them in such manner as to prevent their relations or any other person entitled to have access to them from discovering the place they were imprisoned.
The prosecutor further said the accused persons and others now at large with intent to extort did demand with menaces and received the sum of two million Naira (N2m) from Dr. Amifor Philips father of the victims while they were in their custody with threat not to release them if their demand was not complied with, adding that the accused while armed with AK 47 did robbed their victims of their blue coloured Toyota Corolla car with registration number DN 354 PHC, laptop computer, GSM handsets and other valuable properties.
He stated that the accused persons committed an offence punishable under section 516 A(1), 406 of the criminal code, cap 37, Vol 11, laws of Rivers State, 1999 and (1(2) of the Rivers State kidnap (prohibition) laws No. 8 of 2009 and section 1(2)(b) of the Robbery and fire arms (special provision) Act, Cap. R11 laws of the Federation 2004.
The presiding chief magistrate, Emmanuel Woke, remanded the accused persons to prison custody and directed that the original case file to DPP. The case was later adjourned to 23/04/2014.
