Academy Wins Rotary Club’s Spelling Competition

Harcourt has emerged winner of the maiden edition of the inter-secondary school Spelling Bee Competition organised by Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, Down Town District 9140.
The competition which took place last Friday in Port Harcourt also saw Model Girls Secondary School, Rumueme, coming second, while Hallel College took the third place.
Over forty secondary schools participated in the competition.
The President Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Down Town district 9140, Dr Abiye Tamuno-Opubo, said that the competition was organised to improve the word and knowledge base of students in the state in addition to the spelling challenges that is evident in our society.
He commended the centre for Creative Art Education for pledging to further expose the winners of the competition in the contest to serve as trainees in public speaking, entrepreneurial development and other aspects of human capacity development.
Also speaking, the representative of the Chairman, Board of Secondary Education, Miss Ogbonna Dokubo commended the club for the programme as it will encourage children to reading widely adding that the Board was ready to work with my club that is ready to support education in the state.
The Executive Director, centre for Creative Art Education, Mrs Hilda Dokubo described the competition as timely as the culture of decline in the society.
She observed that, with this programme, children will begin to see the need for reading stressing that the centre will continue to work with the Rotary Club to improve education in the society.
