Zamfara Spends N2bn On Compensation
The Zamfara State Government last Thursday said it spent about N2 billion as compensation for various projects across the state from January to December of 2013.
The state Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Alhaji Lawal Jangebe, said this while defending the ministry’s 2014 budget at the state House of Assembly, Gusau.
Jangebe said that government would also spend N1.5 billion for the payment of compensation in 2014.
He further said that out of the amount, N200 million would be used for compensation on the building of referral hospital and schools in Talata Mafara.
According to him, N420 million would be spent for land compensation on buildings affected by construction of the Federal University Gusau, while another N400 million would be spent for the same purpose in Gusau.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Alhaji Aliyu Kagara, called on ministries and other government agencies to always contact their various house standing committees while executing projects.
Kagara said that the lawmakers had vital roles to play in ensuring that the projects were done for the betterment of the state.
