We’re Not Afraid Of Nigeria -Ghana
Ghana captain Jordan Opoku has admitted that his side has a tough task when they face Nigeria in the semi-final of the African Nations Championship tonight at Free State Stadium in South Africa.
The Black Stars have done just enough in reaching the semi-finals by scraping out wins, scoring four goals in their four games but against a Nigeria side that has scored 12 goals in four games, the Ghanaians will need to be in top form to overcome their bitter rivals.
The Ghana defence has been impressive though, having only conceded just one goal in the tournament so far.
“I can compare the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana to that of our home clubs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak,” said Opoku.
“You have to be strong mentally to outdo your opponents when the rivalry gets heated.
“We have to raise our game to match Nigeria because they are the better side. If we lose concentration for just one moment we won’t win, we have to stay focused throughout the 90 minutes.
“On the pitch, we tell ourselves that if we don’t score, then we will not allow the other team to score. If we allow Nigeria to score first it is going to be a difficult game, so we have to switch on mentally and take our chances,” he added.
