U-17 W/Cup: No Threat To Flamingoes
The Flamingoes Coach,
Bala Nikyu has said that pairing Nigeria in Group D with Mexico, Colombia and China posed no threat to his team at the U-17 World Cup.
Nikyu made the assertion in an interview with newsmen as the U-17 national team resumed training at the National Stadium, Abuja.
The competition will hold from March 15 to April 4 in Costa Rica.
“It is a youth tournament, so, I don’t have any fear. Within one or two months, I am sure the team will be ready to face anyone.
“I don’t have any doubt about our success and we are seeing ourselves playing in the final to surpass the quarter-finals stage we reached in Azerbaijan in 2012,’’ she said.
The coach added that the team would go on training tour in the first week of February for more exposure.
“After the camping in Abuja, we hope to leave the country probably in the first week of February on training tour.
“We will follow it up with some mini-competitions to expose the players, because some of them are inexperienced.
“We retained only about six of the players that featured in the 2012 edition in Azerbaijan.
“So, the team is a bulk of new players and we have to expose them and make them feel that they can contest with their foreign counterparts,’’ Nikyu said.
