RSG To Release More Funds For Workers Training
The Rivers State
Government is to release more funds this year for the training and retraining of civil servants in the state.
The State Governor Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who disclosed this at the Rivers State Civil Service 2014 New Year prayer/dedication service in Port Harcourt, also said that the government is providing a conducive environment for the work of civil servants in the state.
Amaechi said that the administration has taken steps to reposition the state which has seen giant strides in virtually every sectors.
He listed some of these steps to include, the employment of 13,200 teachers to improve the educational sector, employment of more doctors to boost healthcare delivery in the state, while more females have been appointed permanent secretaries.
The Governor said that the challenges ahead require more sacrifices from all stating that civil servants owe the government the duty of being more dedicated and understanding.
In his welcome address, the Rivers State Head of Service, Barrister Samuel .T. LongJohn said that the thanksgiving service which is an annual event is imperative to seek the face of God, stressing that the theme of this year’s service which is centered on the parables of the talent is to show that there is reward in faithfulness.
LongJohn also disclosed plans to codify the civil service commission and treasury circulars.
He listed other programmes to include, prompt payment of retirees, while training and retraining of civil servants will be given prompt attention.
The Head of Service also commended the state Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for the suspension of the tenure policy for permanent secretaries and Directors in the civil service.
