Renovation Of School Buildings: Assembly Seeks Budgetary Provision

In order to give credibility to government expenditure, the Ondo State House of Assembly has advocated for budgetary provision for the renovation of Public Primary School buildings across the state.

Making this known to journalists in Akure, recently, shortly after his team visited the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the vice chairman, House Committee on Education, Mr Olatunji Daira, said the state of Public Primary Schools in the state needs attention.

Daira also appealed to the board to embark on massive campaign against encroachment on lands belonging to public schools, adding that some people have developed the habit of encroaching on school properties.

He also commended Governor Olusegun Mimiko over the achievement of his administration in the education sector.

The vice chairman also explained that the state government had completed 18 out of the 44 mega schools proposed, adding that work has reached 95 per cent completion on the other projects.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the board, Mr Ade Adeniyi, commended the visit of the Assembly Committee, adding that the board in conjunction with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) had conducted a screening exercise for 2,467 prospective teachers.

Adeniyi said 400 applicants were finally selected based on the number approved by UBEC, pointing that the board also conducted a promotion interview for 6000 teachers.

He expressed optimism that the intention of the state government to renovate public schools coupled with the elevation of the teachers would motivate them to greater productivity in the state education sector.

Adeniyi further said that the board had constituted monitoring team that would visit the 18 local government areas to monitor teachers.
