Police Arrest 320 Boko Haram Suspects In Rivers
There is tension in security circles in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital as the state police command yesterday arrested about 320 persons suspected to be members of the militant Boko Haram sect.
The suspects, men and women, were arrested in the early hours of yesterday in a convoy of 17 buses along the border between Rivers and Imo states.
The convoy was said to be led by one Bala Mato Dambam.
The source also said the buses belong to a transport company owned by a former Inspector General of Police and took off from Jigawa State.
The Tide gathered that the suspects were allegedly taken to the Central Police Station, which also shares the same premises with the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), where they are said to be detained while investigations continue.
Efforts to get confirmation on the arrest from the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, yesterday failed as all phone calls through his mobile phone could not connect, while automatic voice prompts requested our reporter to drop any message in the voice mail.
He also failed to respond to SMS sent to his phone on the matter.
