A housewife,
Ketim Aminu, last Thursday, asked an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve her four-year-old marriage to Taofik Aminu over his perpetual drunkenness.
Ketim, 30, a resident of Maraba area, Ilorin, told the court that her husband derived pleasure being drunk on daily basis.
“My husband will at times drink and vomit in our sitting room in the presence of our visitors,” she said.
The petitioner told the court that the defendant preferred spending his earnings on alcohol than on his family.
According to her, their four-year-old marriage had produced a male child, Akeem.
“My lord, I want an end to this marriage because I cannot cope with his drunken lifestyle,” said Ketim.
Aminu objected to the prayer of his wife, saying he was still interested in the marriage.
“I promise to change and make my family my number one priority for the sake of my wife and our only son,” he said.
He prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him reconcile with his wife and other members of his family.
The presiding Judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, adjourned the case to February 5 for a report of settlement or continuation of hearing.
