NEMA Trains 45 Officers To Boost Ambulance Service
The National Emergency
Management Agency (NEMA) last Tuesday in Abuja began training of 45 officers to boost the organisation’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
The NEMA’s Director-General, Alhaji Mohammad Sani-Sidi, said the training was aimed at mobilising officers who would assist in operating the agency’s ambulances services.
Represented by NEMA’s Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Charles Otegbade, Sani-Sidi said officers in the emergency response unit were also being trained to be proactive in responding to emergencies.
He said participants would receive training on casualty handling, pre-hospital trauma and moving equipment to scene of incidence.
The director-general said the participants would also be trained on how to administer basic life support, first aid materials, dressing and cold compresses.
The others are bandage and bandaging as well as how to remove clothing and head gears of casualties.
Sani-Sidi said the training would also focus on administering first aid in common emergencies such as fractures, bleeding and burns, shocks, Asthma and choking. It will also include head injury and spinal injury as well as cardiac arrest and unconsciousness.
According him, the officers will be taught the basic component of the mobile intensive care unit ambulance and how it can be operated.
He urged the participants to translate the experience gained from the training into saving the lives of Nigerians during emergencies.
The Head of NEMA’s MICU, retired Commander Bala Alti, said officers should avoid heroic rescue that would endanger their lives.
He urged participants to exhibit confidence while attending to victims during emergencies.
