NBSA Set To Introduce National League
The Nigeria Baseball and
Softball Association (NBSA) last Tuesday said it would soon introduce a national league, to increase the profile of the sport in the country.
NBSA Secretary, Kehinde Laniyan, told newsmen recently that the league would kick off in March in Lagos and Port Harcourt, simultaneously.
Laniyan said that Lagos and Rivers States were picked as centres because they had successful state leagues in 2013.
“We are already working hard to ensure that the league comes up in March and I strongly believe that the commencement of the league will enhance the development of the sport.
“Using Lagos and Port Harcourt as centres will drive other states’ this year to introduce their league and organise competitions regularly,’’ Laniyan said.
The NBSA secretary added that the league would also assist the association in selecting clubs that would represent the country at the Africa Baseball and Softball clubs championships slated for April in Zimbabwe.
“The league will also prepare our clubs ahead of the Africa clubs championship,’’ he said.
Laniyan appealed to corporate bodies and philanthropists to support the association in developing the sport.
