LG Boss Condemns Attack On Okehi High Court
The Chairman of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Barr Reginald Ukwuoma, has condemned the destruction of Okehi High Court by unknown persons in the early hours of Monday, describing it as unfortunate and a ploy by detractors of progress to demean the sanctity of the temple of justice in the area.
Barr Ukwuoma who stated this while speaking with The Tide, yesterday in Port Harcourt, averred that no matter how aggrieved persons or group of persons maybe, it amounts to inglorious act for any body to vent his or her anger in the temple of justice.
He opined that if any body has a case before a judge or magistrate that he feels will not be favourable to him or her, the best thing he said, is not for the individual to destroy the court.
According to him, the judicial process has a procedure where people can get justice in their matter, noting that there are many cases and case files in the court, which have been destroyed by the fire.
He described the perpetrators of the act as sons of devil, adding that the act was a well coordinated one. “When I mean that they are sons of satan they go about hiring boys to destablise the system in the area.”
“It was an inferno, arson. We saw fire raising the judge seat, witness files, chairs and other valuables in the court were totally raised down by the fire”.
The council boss used the opportunity to call on politicians in the area to ensure that the youths in the area are given positive directions that would help them succeed in life rather than using them to destroy government properties in the area.
“Allow the young ones, find them a trade, teach them handwork, give them food instead of given them guns and leave the youths alone.” While calling on the youths to desist any forms of temptations to use them as thugs to destroy and destabilise peace in the area.
