LG Boss Cautions Traders On Illegal Structures

The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA) Chimbiko Akarolo has cautioned traders at the Rumuwoji Mile One Market not to build any illegal structure at the market.

Akarolo who made this known in his 2014 new year message to the people of Port Harcourt, said that it would be improper for any trader to go back to build illegal structure at the market.

He said that government is already working out modalities on how to give relief to traders by expediting action on building the recently burnt market, pointing out that traders going back to rebuild illegal structures at the burnt market will delay the decision of government to rebuild the market.

Already, most of the traders at the recently burnt Mile One Market have erected umbrella sheds to enable them carry out their business.

The Tide’s visit to the market revealed that umbrella sheds have taken over the market environment as goods were seen displayed at the various sheds in the market.

Some of the traders posited that they would not want to give any chance to anybody to take over their position, especially where they are using to eke out their daily needs.

They posited that government’s promise to come to their aid is not something that will be done immediately and so, they will help themselves till then.

It would be recalled that the Mayor of Port Harcourt, on his visit to the market after the fire incident, promised that the Port Harcourt City Council will collaborate with the state government to give relief to traders for the burnt mile one market, last December.
