Falconets Qualify For W/Cup, Need Early Preparations
The Falconets’ Media Of
ficer, Elizabeth Kah, at the weekend said there was the need for an immediate commencement of preparations by the team for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Kah told newsmen in a telephone interview that good preparations were necessary in order for the team to excel at the world competition.
The Falconets had on Saturday beaten hosts South Africa 1-0 (7-0 aggregate) in the final qualifying round second leg match to qualify for the competition scheduled for Canada.
“The NFA should ensure that preparations for the World Cup start immediately. This is important, for us to be able to do well in Canada,’’ Kah said.
Speaking on the Falconets’ match against the Basetsana at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, the team spokesperson said the match was very tough for the Nigerian under-20 women side.
“It was a very tough game for us, but Yetunde Adeboyejo scored the only goal of the match in the third minute. This helped us a lot,’’ she said.
The Falconets had recorded a 6-0 win in the first leg game two weeks earlier in Abuja, thus qualifying on a 7-0 aggregate.
The team had earlier beaten Sierra Leone 16-0 aggregate, winning 12-0 in Abuja and 4-0 in Freetown, and Tunisia 4-0 home and away for an 8-0 aggregate win.
The 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be the seventh edition, is scheduled to hold between August 5 and Aug. 24.
