The Federal Airports Au
thority of Nigeria (FAAN) says it has concluded arrangements to construct a storey building car park to accommodate more cars and decongest the Port Harcourt International Airport.
Regional General Manager South-South/South East Mrs Ebele Okoye stated this last Tuesday shortly after an unscheduled inspection tour of facilities at the airport.
Mrs Okoye disclosed that the car park when completed will take a lot of cars and assist to ease the current congestion at the airport, noting however that users would be expected to pay for the parking lot on an hourly basis.
On high charges on the new car park, the regional manager said the car park was designated to accommodate oil companies that can afford the charge.
“The special car park is a matter of choice for oil companies who can pay for it, if you cannot pay you use the common car park for everybody” she said, stressing that FAAN is determined to change the face of the airports for the better.
Mrs Okoye explained that the access road being constructed at the airport is to create another road that will allow airport users have free flow of traffic as those that use the drop and go area will exit through the new access road.
Commenting on the non-completion of the arrival section of the airport terminal the regional manager attributed the delay to logistics problem being encountered by the contracting firm, adding that “if you give them what they need now, in the next three months the job will be delivered”.
She hinted that the departure hall have been achieved and the arrival hall will also be completed to meet international standard but used the opportunity to thank users of the Port Harcourt International Airport for their patience with the management.
Mrs Okoye however, assured them that FAAN was determined to make the airport one of the best in the country that would make them to be proud.
