Expert Advises On Proper Eating Habits

Medical experts have advised on eating right to promote good health.

A resident doctor in Family Medical, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Dr Chijioke Abelu gave this advice in a chat in his office at UPTH.

Dr Mbelu, explained that it was important to eat right to avoid unhealthy conditions .Dr Mbelu particularly warned that people should cut down on their consumption of fast foods, reasoning that fast foods were laden with unhealthy fasts and oils .According to him, “people should be very careful of what they eat and drink, they should cut down on fast foods, because a lot of the oils they use are already expired.

Dr Mbelu explained, “they have boiled the oil so that it has lost every nutrient, the oil they used in cooking rice was used to fry meat, fry chicken, doughnut and eventually used to cook rice, such oil is very bad for the heart”.

He also advised that chicken should be skinned before consumption “because the oil under the chicken skin is bad”.

Also, he advised that people who are above 40 years and those prone to hypertension should be extra careful in their choice of food.

Further more, he said people who have been warned against high cholesterol would do well to avoid excessive fats, noting that it is a predisposing factor stroke and heart attack.
