Enyimba, Bayelsa Open Super 4
League runners-up
Enyimba and Bayelsa United will open the pre-season Super 4 tournament at the Abuja National Stadium today.
The opening day action will kick-off at 2.00pm local time.
The second game of the day will be between champions Kano Pillars and Warri Wolves and it will begin by 4.00pm. The other match days are Sunday and Tuesday.
Prize money for the winners is 1.5 million Naira (less than $10,000). The Nigeria League wants to use this competition, which is to be played on round-robin basis, to prepare the country’s representatives in international football.
Pillars and Enyimba will fly the country’s flag in the CAF Champions League, while Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves feature in the second-tier Confederation Cup.
Enyimba were the only Nigerian club to have won the Champions League after they won it in 2003 and 2004, while no club from the country has won the Confederation Cup.
