Ekiti Spends N120m On Free Drugs Scheme

The Ekiti State Government
has spent N120 million in the past two and a half years on drugs and consumables for the 35 health facilities where the free health programme is being implemented in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Olusola Fasuba who disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti last Monday during a review meeting on the State of the Free Health Programme  added that all the drugs were bought from the State’s Central Medical Stores in Ado-Ekiti and distributed to the 35 health facilities that had been carefully selected for the programme.
Olusola said the health facilities received a stock of drugs based on the essential drug list, consumables and medical record tools.
He said that hospital beds, delivery beds, ultra-sound machines, generators, centrifuges and microscopes were also distributed to the facilities, to enhance effective service delivery.
The commissioner explained that the objectives of the meeting was to discuss the level of performance and the implementation of the Free Health Programme of the present government.
He added that the meeting was also designed to address the challenges of the programme at both primary and referral levels.
The commissioner said that the forum was also to generate corrective measures to address identified challenges and to disseminate new implementation guidelines to facilitate the implementation of the management of referrals, drugs and data documentation.
Olusola gave kudos to Gov. Kayode Fayemi, for the introduction of the Free Health Programme in the state.
The Free Health Programme of the State government covers only pregnant women, children from age 0-5, as well as elderly persons above 65.
