Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) Vice President, Mike Umeh has said that the Super Eagles’ performance at the African Nations championship is a credit to the Nigeria Premier League.
The domestic competition has suffered from bad press in recent years, but is gradually being turned around by the League Management Company.
Umeh said that the players have proved that despite all the troubles, the league can compete favourably with the rest of the continent
“These boys have been very good ambassadors of the league,” Umeh told newsmen.
“What they have shown is that our league has not fallen below expectations, otherwise we won’t be able to get these players.
“Most of the boys you see here today are not the same who started the qualification series.
“More than half of the team have left and these are new boys who have been drafted in to replace them but look at what the boys are doing now against other teams who have been together for much longer.”
Speaking at their training session later on Wednesday, Umeh admonished the players not to take their feet off the pedal but to keep their eyes firmly fixed on the prize.
