A National Weightlifting Coach, Johnson Obeh, has said athletes’ inability to access training facilities at the National Stadium, Lagos, remained a major challenge to preparation ahead of international competitions.
Obeh told newsmen on Monday that limited access of athletes to the main bowl was hampering preparations for the upcoming trials before some major Games.
He said that athletes who won medals for the country at previous competitions had an unrestricted access to the facility, which aided their preparation.
“Even for the athletes to go in and train there, they will say they give them Monday, Wednesday Friday sometimes they will not open the main bowl for them to train,” he added..
Obeh said: “Some time they will open by 10 o’clock they say the person that wants to open the place is not there is at Ibadan until he comes before they can open the place.
“But in those days 6 o’clock the main bowl is open between 7 o’clock you will see the athletes, let them come back and see and let them come back and think how the athletes train to make up’’.
Coach Obeh pleaded with authorities to encourage the athletes aspiring to win medals at the Commonwealth, Africa and Olympic Games by providing them the enabling environment to prepare.
