Chime Inaugurates 17 LG Chairmen
The 17 Local Government
Council Chairmen and their deputies in Enugu State have been inaugurated with a charge to them toalways work towards peace and development of the state.
Giving the recently while speaking shortly after swearing them in at Michael Okpara Square Enugu, the state governor, Barrister Sullivan Chime, also urged them not to see themselves as sole administrators, but as chairmen who had been elected to serve the people, especially those at the grassroots.
Describing Enugu as a calm and peace loving state, governor Chime made it clear that his government would go to any length to sustain it, warning that any council chairman, person or group of individuals that do anything on the contrary would be made to face the law of the land no matter how highly placed in the society.
The council chairmen who are made up of 12 serving for the second term and five new ones, were also advised not to embark on any project based on their personal interest, as people oriented project should always be taken into consideration.
According to him, “In Enugu State, we are working very hard to perfect the act of governance. Enugu State have serious minded politicians who don’t follow you any how, but because of what we stand for. My prayer for Enugu State is that any person taking over from me should perform better than myself in all ramifications. That is my prayer for the state”.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the chairman of Enugu East Local Government, Prince Collins Nnaji, assured Governor Chime of the support and cooperation of all the 17 council chairmen in the state.
