Association Urges Countries To Bid For AYG

tional Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) has called for bids by countries wishing to stage the 3rd and 4th Africa Youth Games in 2018 and 2022.
This was contained in a statement by ANOCA to all the 54 affiliate countries in the association.
The statement urged interested countries to submit their bids and letters of guarantee by February 1.
According to the committee, the first evaluation of bids from interested countries will hold on February 18.
It said from February 20 to 28, an inspection tour would be carried out by ANOCA Evaluation team to competing cities.
“On March 10, reports on bidding countries will be submitted by ANOCA Evaluation Committee while acceptance of bids will hold on March 20.
The overall bidding process will end with the signing of protocol and agreement by the ANOCA committee and the eventual selection of host country,” it said.
The African Youth Games is meant for young people aged between 14 and 18.
It is a multidimensional event initiated by ANOCA during the 2009-2012 Olympiad.
The event features 20 compulsory sports and some optional sports disciplines.
It also features an education and cultural programmes aimed at showcasing art and culture of the host country and Africa at large.
The games offer African athletes a platform to prepare for the Olympics as well as to develop sports on the continent.
The maiden edition was held from July 13 to July 18, 2010 in Rabat, Morocco, while the second edition was slated for Gaborone, Botswana, from May 22 to May 31.
