The All Progressives
Congress (APC) in  Rivers State has condemned the arrest and detention for two days of two local government council chairmen loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi for what it described as undisclosed reasons by the state police command.
Hon Gregory Bariledom Nwidam,  Chairman of Khana Local Government Area and his Gokana counterpart.  Hon Ledee Demua were taken into custody since last Monday and were released on bail last Wednesday.
The party in a statement signed by the Media Assistant  to  the Chairmen, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze said the arrest and detention were another evidence of the high handedness being displayed by the state Police command under Mbu Joseph Mbu.
The party alleged that the Commissioner of Police was acting on the directives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an alleged collaboration to plunge Rivers State into unprecedented crisis.
Accordng to him, the arrest and detention of Hon Nwidam and Hon Demua were being without justification, they were been held beyond the 24 hours prescribed by the  Constitution while attempts are being made to find a crime to hang on their necks.
“We condemn equivocally the use of hoodlums from neighboring Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa States to disrupt the peace of Rivers State by misguided PDP politicians in collaboration with their police partners in the name of rallies as was the case of yesterday by a non existing Ikwerre Group all  in the futile efforts of declaration of state emergency in Rivers State by the Federal Government which will never materialise.
He  urge Rivers State people and all residents in the state to continue to pray for sanity to be restored to the minds of these misguided, disgruntled and debased – minded fellows for God to intervene in order to allow peace to prevail in the state.
