Anti-Gay Law: Senator Berates International Community

Senator Obende
Domingo of Edo North has berated the international community for its stand against the anti-gay law in Nigeria.
Reacting to the criticism of the law, Domingo said what Nigeria needed from the international community was technology transfer and not morality.
“We need technology transfer and not morals from the international communities,’’ Domingo, who sponsored the bill, told newsmen in Benin on Saturday.
“We are traditional people, we are people of culture. We are civilised in the way we do our things in Africa and Africa is naturally unique and that is why we are totally different from the culture they keep and the ones we keep.
“As a sovereign nation, I do not think that another country will have to legislate for our country.
“Nigeria is a sovereign nation; we have a right to legislate on the governance of our country,’’ he said.
The senator commended the leadership of the Senate for ensuring the bill saw the light of the day.
“If the leadership and the Senate as a body did not see the need for us to arrest this ugly situation, maybe today the bill could just be at the level of first reading and nothing will be done about it.”
