32 Nigeria Shooter In Camp For African championship
The Nigeria Shooting
Federation (NSF) has said it had invited 32 shooters to camp, ahead of the African Shooting Championships starting on February 26 in Cairo, Egypt.
NSF Secretary, Dayo Abudule, told newsmen in Lagos that the camping was aimed at preparing the selected shooters for the championships.
Abudule explained that the shooters were the best from the late Maj. Joseph Ogundele-Ojo Shooting competition, held in December.
He said that camp would commence in Lagos on January 22.
“The 32 shooters will compete in the 10 metre range, male and female pistol/rifle team and the individual events.
“The best eight shooters with the highest scores in each category will be selected at the end of the camp,’’ Abudule said.
He also said that four young shooters would feature in the U-15 and U-18 categories.
“We were proud to see young shooters turn up for the last competition, and their performance was so impressive that we are now confident about the future of the sport.
“We will ensure that each state coach trains and monitors these young ones by going to their schools to identify those that are interested in the sport.
“Shooting as a sport has come to stay in Nigeria and we will ensure that we develop the states that do not have shooting ranges,’’ Abudule added.
