2015: Governorship Not For Ikwerres Again -Amaechi
Governor Chibuike Amaechi has foreclosed the possibility of the Ikwerres taking a shot at the governorship slot in 2015. He said the Ikwerres must allow other parts of the state to produce the governor.
He bared his mind when Oceania Communities in Kalabari Kingdom paid him a solidarity visit last weekend in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Amaechi also said, “I have told the Ikwerres that they must allow other areas to produce the governor Ikwerre people should forget the governorship for now”.
The Rivers State Chief Executive used the visit to affirm that he was not supporting any section to occupy the Brick House in 2015, saying, Believe me, I don’t know the next place the governor will come from. I’am not God”.
Amaechi emphasized that for now, his major concern was to deliver good governance and impact on the lives of the citizenry.
On the issue of Soku Oil wells, the Rivers State governor said it was high time the people of Kalabari rose and spoke with one voice, adding, “the Amayanabo of Abonnema surprised me, I expect to see patriotism on the side of the people”.
He reasoned that if he had kept quiet over the matter, the oil wells would all have been totally ceded to Bayelsa State.
The governor submitted that posterity will not judge him fairly, if he had overlooked the matter.
“In case of tomorrow, I want to make sure that this place belongs to the Kalabari people”.
He, therefore, called on the Kalabari people to support his administration to fight for their land as he assured that, “you will not get your oil wells unless you vote out PDP. If the PDP comes back for second term, then the oil wells are finally gone”.
Assuring the Oceania Communities of government plan to transform their area, Amaechi promised that new Model Schools and Health Centres would be sited in each of the Communities.
The Communities include, Kula, Soku, Elem-Sangana, Abisse and Idama.
The governor stressed that, “we owe some level of responsibility to you wether you produce oil or not”.
Earlier on, leader of the group and former Minister of Petroleum, Prof. Tam David-West had hinted on the need for the riverine area to produce the next governor of the state.
Prof. David-West said, “the next governor of Rivers State must come from the rinverine area, and anybody that will not continue from what Governor Amaechi has done shall not succeed”.
The Professor of Virology maintained that other sections campaigning for the governorship are not being just to the riverine as he carpeted critics of Governor Amaechi administration as being blind of the various developmental strides he had made in the state.
He used the visit to call on the federal government to leave Kalabari territory alone, insisting that the boundary left by the Colonial government was a landmark that must be respected by the authorities.
