Over 5,000 people in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State have defected to All Progressives Congress (APC) in solidarity with the Rivers State.   Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The people defected recently at the APC rally organised in Port Harcourt to welcome to the party, the defected leadership of Phalga chapter of  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt.

Speaking on behalf of the people of PHALGA at the welcome rally,  a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Igo Aguma said the move was in line with the position of the state governor, and chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Rt Hon  Amaechi’s rightful decision to toe the path of justice to sustain democracy in the country, including Rivers State.

Hon  Aguma  said, it was clear that PDP did not want people with leadership qualities to save the country from injustice and corruption.

He said, PDP had lost control of leadership as the party had been hijacked by people with selfish interests rather than national interest.

Hon  Aguma said, with the number of people moving to APC from PDP, it was only the blind that could not see the failure ahead for PDP in the 2015 elections.

He called on the people to remain steadfast, as the journey to victory would not be an easy one, but with continuous support and commitment, victory would be assured.

Also speaking, the chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo assured the people of the area that the APC would take over from PDP as the ruling party in the country and Rivers State in particular by 2015.

He said, ‘Nigerians are celebrating the end of authoritative and tyrannical rule of PDP in the country, stressing that what was happening today in the country was a political revolution to free the masses from years of poverty and bad leadership and governance.
