Subscribers Hail NATCOM’s Move Against Service Providers
Subscribers in Port Harcourt, have hailed the National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATComs) over its determination to join the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in a suit for subscribers compensation against poor services.
It would be recalled that NATcoms, had on October 10, 2013, filed a suit against NCC, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), MTN, Airtel and others for poor quality services being rendered to subscribers in the country.
Some subscribers, who spoke with The Tide Wednesday in Port Harcourt, said that NATcoms’ action has so far, proved that subscribers interests are still protected.
They regretted that network providers in the country have defied every warning to improve on their services, which indicates that they (service providers) are not serious minded.
One subscriber, who gave his name as Nnanyere Okoro, cautioned the association to follow the case to its logical conclusion in a bid to spur the service providers to action.
He noted that services are always poor at festive periods, wondering the reason behind such development.
According to Okoro, if NATcoms, could press hard on the existing service providers in the country, it may pave a better environment for subscribers, expecially with regard to any network provider applying to operate, have in Nigeria.
Abigail Allen said that the N5,000 compensation as demanded by NATCOms for each subscriber, was not enough judging from the huge loss subscribers have suffered in the country. She said that service providers have not lived up to expectation, following the high rate of patronage they are receiving from Nigerians.
The service providers were given up to September this year to compensate subscribers, but up to this month, nothing has been done.
