Sokoto Earmarks N120m For 300 Tricycles

The Sokoto State Government has said that it had earmarked N120 million for the purchase of 300 tricycles in 2014.

The Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar, said this in Sokoto when he appeared before the State House of Assembly Committee on Special Duties, Careers and Security.

“The 300 tricycles will be distributed to unemployed youths at subsidised cost across the 23 local governments of the state.

“The gesture will enable the government to further reduce the level of unemployment and poverty in the state,” he said

Abubakar said also that the tricycles would help in reducing the transportation problems of women and children across the state.

The committee Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Bala, promised to ensure the successful implementation of the proposed budget of the ministry in 2014.

Meanwhile, the state government has proposed to construct a 2km shelter-belts in each of the 23 local government areas of the state.

The proposal was disclosed last Tuesday in Sokoto, by the Commissioner of Environment, Dr Jabbi Kilgori.

Kilgori made the disclosure when he appeared before the state House of Assembly Committee on Environment.

He said that the ministry would give priority to the construction of the shelter belts across the state.

“These are part of sustained efforts to control desert encroachment and water erosion in the state,” he said.

The Commissioner said the ministry would also rovide additional refuse bunkers and containers in 2014.

Kilgori said that the refuse bunkers and containers would boost refuse disposal and evacuation of refuse from the dainages.

The committee Chairman, Alhaji Sani Yakubu, commended the level of execution of the ministry’s 2013 budget.

Yakubu promised to assist the ministry to ensure effective budget implementation in 2014.
