The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, has charged media practitioners in the state to devote more attention to capacity development to boost their productivity.

Speaking shortly after receiving a certificate from staff of the month awardee of the Ministry, Miss Juliana Masi, who returned from the Netherlands where she had undergone training in multi-media and sanitation, Semenitari said that media practitioners must be fully prepared to positively contribute towards the development of the society.

The Commissioner, who urged staff of the Ministry to be passionate on their job, said that the Ministry would continue to encourage them to improve themselves.

She congratulated Miss Julinana Masi for the successful completion of her course, stressing that her action has made the Ministry proud.

According to the Commissioner, the programme was in line with the aspiration of the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who is already encouraging civil servants in the state  to undertake more for training and retraining to improve their productivity.

Mrs Semenitari said that the example of Miss Juliana Masi must go a long way to encourage media practitioners both within the Ministry and outside to wake up from their slumber and go for things that will boost their capacities.

While presenting the certificate to the Commissioner, Miss Juliana Masi attributed the success of the programme to God and the able leadership of the Commissioner through which the staff of the month award was instituted.

Miss Masi said that the training in multi-media Journalism, water and sanitation had further exposed her to the world of Information and Communication Technology.

It would be recalled that Staff of the Month Award was instituted by Mrs Semenitari to improve productivity of staff.

The Commissioner also ensured that beneficiaries get an overseas training.
