RSPHCA Moves To Improve Primary Healthcare

The Rivers State Primary Healthcare Authority (RSPHCA) has issued a 15-point communiqué to address improved staff productivity, quality healthcare delivery and sustainability.

After a consultative forum of Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board (RSPHCMB), Health management Committee, and Chairmen and Secretaries of (PHAs), in Port Harcourt, yesterday, the communiqué, which was drawn up from their July 23, 2012 meeting was endorsed.

The communiqué mandated local government council chairmen to provide decent office and residential accommodation for staff of the health centres to enhance their performance and ensure sustainability.

It was recommended that  staff remunerations be improved to boost productivity.

To promote team spirit and synergy, chairmen and Secretaries of PHAs were charged to abide by the roles and responsibilities outlined for them, according to the communiqué.

It was also recommended that the three percent statutory deductions from local government accounts to fund RSPHMB, be increased to 10 per cent to instance its productivity and enable the board to meet it obligations.

The communiqué recommendation also include staff discipline stating that discipline and control of all staff on grade level six and below be handled  by PHCAs while those above level six be referred to the RSPHCMB

The Chairman of RSPHCMB, Prof. Uriel Etawo, thanked the participants at the forum and enjoins them to be proactive in the discharge of their duties.
