The Commissioner for Works, Rivers State, Hon. Victor Giadom, says, road construction  in the state will vindicate the Governor, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Giadom said this while fielding questions from newsmen in his office recently.

He disclosed that roads in the state before Governor Amaechi’s administration were only 7.3 meters or less in width, stating that the situation was a reason why the government decided to reconstruct almost all the roads in the state and added that it adopted the same policy in building new roads.

The Ministry of Works boss explained that the administration adopted the policy of constructing six-lane dual carriage roads and also  reconstructing the old narrow 7.3 meter roads in like fashion, noting that the Governor’s vision has paid off because, between 2007 to date, the completed road projects in the state are, mainly dual carriage ways.

Giadom also disclosed that the roads which existed before the present administration had poor foundation which made them to fail sooner than they were constructed, adding that the situation caused the government to redesign and rebuild them on solid foundation, guaranteeing a durability period of at least, 20 years and challenging the journalists to drive through the new Ada George, Omagwa/Omerelu, G.U.Ake, Azikiwe, Ikwerre Roads and so forth and they would bear the state out.

“If you drive through Omagwa-Omerulu, G. U. Ake, Ada George, up to Obiri Ikwerre/Tam David-West Buolevard, Azikiwe, Ken Saro Wiwa, Ikwerre Roads and so on, you will bear us a witness that we mean our words”, Hon. Giadom said.

He said that the Governor did not play politics with development of infrastructure in the state but ensured that the road projects were scattered in all the 23 local government areas to make the people feel the impact of his administration, contrary to what obtained in the past.
