Rivers Weightlifters Win Siliver, Bronze At NYG

An Assistant Coach with the Rivers State Weight lifting Assocation, Mike Onyekachi, has praised the performance of weightlifters in the state at the just concluded National Youth Games held in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Onyekachi who made the commendation in a telephone interview with Tidesports shortly after the closing ceremony of the game said that, though the competition was maiden edition of the game coupled with short time preparation, lifters from Rivers State performed well.

According to him, two female lifters won two Silver and two bronze in their various weight classes.

Bright Brown won two Siliver and one bronze in 53 weight category while Stella Kingsley won a bronze in the 48 weight class.

He promised that the association would do its best to encourage and groom the newly discovered talents at the NYG.

He further explained that certificates were presented to the athletes in various category of medals.

He however, hoped that if the NYG is sustained it would produce more pudding talents who could be used to replace aging athletes at the State National and International level.
