Rivers Declares For APC, Today …Set To Receive Wike’s Men
A rally to mark the official defection of Governor Chibuike Amaechi, National Assembly, State Assembly and local government Chairmen to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State is expected to hold today.
This is coming barely four weeks after the merger of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) with the APC and the dislodgement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the grassroots in Rivers State.
The rally is billed to hold at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, Omagwa, as supporters of the Chief Nyesom Wike-led Grassroots Democratic initiative (GDI) are openly to declare for the APC as well.
According to a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant, Public Affairs to the interim State Chairman of APC, Rivers State, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the rally would be witnessed by national officers of the party including, Chief Bisi Akande, Senator Bola Tinubu and Chief Tom Ikimi, among others.
Key actors of Chief Wike’s faction of the PDP in the State are also expected to declare for APC during the rally.
According to some of them, “our eyes have been opened to see the evil that PDP as a party portends so far as the development of Rivers State is concerned”.
Interim Chairman of APC in the State, Chief Ikanya said already local council Chairmen in the State had declared for APC with their councillors when they paid a solidarity visit to the APC Chairman recently at the party secretariat recently.
In the words of Ikanya, “the massive turnout of Rivers State people to receive us in all the local government areas toured provides irrefutable proof that the masses of Rivers State have fully embraced APC as a party of their choice. This is not surprising in view of the total neglect of the State by the PDP led federal government at the centre that apart from ceding most of Rivers State oil wells to Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Abia States”.
Aside ceding Rivers oil wells to neighbouring states, Ikanya also flayed the federal government for not implementing any meaningful development in Rivers State, including denying the people access to potable water by frustrating plans by World Bank and Africa Development Bank to grant loans for the water project.
He also pointed out that “because of Rivers State, the East-West Road and the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway have been abandoned just to ensure that Rivers State people are punished for standing beside their God-given Governor who has demonstrated commitment and love towards the emancipation and development of the state.”
The APC Chief urged the people of Rivers State to see those promoting PDP in the State as enemies of the state, assuring that the government of APC both in the state and at the centre come 2015 would not only protect the interest of the State, but also see that all the wicked polities against the state by the PDP led government were reversed.
