Professionals List Gains Of Scrabble
The Technical Director, Scrabbulympics, Mr. Seun Oyeleke has said that scrabble could be used to promote grassroot education in the country.
He told newsmen in Lagos that the proliferation of the sport in the country would encourage the youth to become literate.
“One major challenge in Nigeria is grassroots education, which can be tackled by the proliferation of genuine scrabble academies and clubs handled by seasoned professionals.
“And I can assure you that it will go a long way in reducing the level of illiteracy in the country,’’ he said.
Oyeleke said that to achieve these objectives, the government ought to make tangible efforts to tackle the challenge of inadequate funding.
“A challenge in achieving these objectives is the lack of finance and corporate sponsorship of scrabble-related activities and tourneys.
“This can be tackled via partnerships with corporations and private sponsors to organise standard scrabble tournaments that will involve people in the grassroots,’’ he said.
