Player Tasks Tennis Association On More Championships
A player registered by the Lagos State Table Tennis Association,Ganiyu Ashimiyu has appealed to the body to ensure that its athletes had more championships in 2014.
Ashimiyu told newsmen that this would help the players to prepare adequately to secure tickets to the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
He said that engaging in competitions regularly would help the players to hone their skills ahead of the Games.
The player said that there was also the need for them to commence preparations early.
“We need more training and competitions next year because it will help to keep us busy and be in competition mood rather than waiting until when major Games are close.
“Such activities will really give our coaches the opportunity to closely observe our deficiencies and be able to make adjustments,’’ he said.
Ashimiyu, a national champion, said that his vision was to represent the country and win medals at the Games, adding that he had stepped up his training to remain unbeatable.
He advised athletes not to accord priority to prize money or gift items during championships but rather seek to improve their skills.
Ashimiyu said the association had been doing a good job by organising competitions which, according to him, had been attracting more upcoming players to the sport.
“The association is a body to reckon with for holding championships and I highly commend them for that because talents are always discovered,’’ he said.
He called on players to also make extra efforts to improve their skills by being regular at training sessions and abiding by the directives given to them by coaches.
