A member of the Federal
House of Representatives, Hon Sokonte Davies has said that the defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State along side four other erstwhile Peoples Democratic Party governors has placed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a minority status in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
Hon Davies who represents Bonny/Degema Federal Constituency noted that the party was fast facing a great threat of disintegration, adding that in a few weeks, it would formalise PDP minority status in the House of Representatives.
According to him, “based on what happened on Tuesday last week, PDP is now a minority party in the House of Representatives. It is now a question of formalising it in two weeks.
‘’Our grouse against the National Chairman of the party,Alhaji Bamanga Tukur is the fragrant violation of the rule of law”, he said.
He noted that if the party’s National Chairman had adhered strictly to the provisions of the constitution, he would have not suspended Governor Amaechi, stating that it was only the National Executive Council (NEC) that could suspend a member of the NEC.
The lawmaker noted that what was happening in the party did not portend any good, stressing that if the party won the 2015 elections under this circumstance, it would be a major miracle.
He warned PDP not to deceive itself because those who had left the party had the indices that would be used in favour of the All Progressives Congress.
