‘Obio/Akpor Dissolution, In Order’
A legal practitioner
and human rights advocate, Barr. Chijoke Agi, has said that the dissolution of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council by the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi is in order.
Barr. Agi, who stated this while speaking to The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend, noted that the power of dissolution was vested in the governor.
The Port Harcourt based lawyer said Rt. Hon. Amaechi acted within the powers vested on him by the law.
He dismissed insinuations that the state governor acted out of malice in order to make an earlier court judgment a nullity.
Barr. Agi remarked that “once a political office holder acts within the powers vested upon him, he does not offend the law”.
“You see, Governor Amaechi has not exceeded the powers conferred upon him. It must be stated without equivocation that he has the power to dissolve a council if he deems it necessary”, he stated.
He pointed out that enemies of the state were finding faults with everything the state governor did.
The Port Harcourt lawyer urged Rivers people to continue to support the Amaechi –led government in the state.
According to him, “Governor Amaechi has really delivered the dividends of democracy, as such, we should give him all the support to continue his good works. We cannot allow detractors to derail the people-oriented project he is doing”.
