Ministry Of Lands Rewards Staff With Car
A cadet officer in the Imo Ministry of Lands and Urban Development, Mr Chioma Eze,has emerged as the most outstanding staff of the ministry in 2013.
Eze, who is of the Department of Town Planning, was rewarded with a brand new car.
The award was part of the ministry’s activities to celebrate the end of year in Owerri.
Eze became the overall winner out of 8 other staff members recommended by the ministry for the award.
The wife of the Imo governor, Mrs Nkechi Okorocha, while handing over the vehicle to Eze, charged civil servants to work hard, and to be dedicated and productive.
Okorocha said the administration led by Gov. Rochas Okorocha was willing to identify and reward hard work.
She described civil servants as image-makers of the state, adding that no state can move forward without hardworking staff.
Okorocha reaffirmed that the next award for outstanding staff would be a Toyota Landcruiser to further motivate and encourage hard work.
She commended the Commissioner for Land and Urban Development, Mr Uche Nwosu, for his innovative ideas that hadtransformed the entire face of Imo.
The Head of the state’s civil service, Mr Calistus Ekenze, described the award as first in the history of the service.
He said the only way to make workers pro-active was by motivating them and rewarding those with exceptional contributions.
Ekenze noted that it was only in the ministry of lands that staff welfare had been considered as a priority.
The commissioner had earlier committed N100,000 from his monthly salary to the welfare department of the ministry.
On his part, the commissioner promised to do everything within his reach to promote productivity in the civil service.
He also said he would continue to identify and reward hardworking staff of the ministry to encourage others.
The ministry also awarded the best dressed staff member and the most dedicated staff with a refrigerator each.
