Mile I Market Inferno: Traders Solicit For Oil Firms’ Assistance
The leadership of the Mile I market, has called on multinationals operating in the state to come to their aid following the recent inferno that gutted their goods in the market.
Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt last week, the chairman of the Mile One Rumuwoji ,Market Traders Association (MOMTA), Deacon Kenneth Eze, said that the call became imperative due to the level of damage the fire has caused them.
He said that oil companies like Shell, Agip and others can handle their predicament effectively.
Eze noted that the oil companies have assisted in other such cases before now, saying that theirs should not be an exception.
“Shell, Agip and others have been assisting victims of similar circumstances, they should also come to our aid, our own should be no exemption” he said.
He explained that only huge revenue spinners like the oil companies could address their need, considering its urgency.
When asked if there are plans to visit the oil companies about their plight, he said such was not in view yet, pending the decision of the members after Yuletide celebration.
To buttress his point, he put the total loss at N4 billion, hinting that only the oil companies and related agencies can cough out such amount in the name of charity.
