The Chairman of
Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Council, Hon Augustine, Doctor Ahiamadu has described the defection of the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the best thing that had happened to the people of Rivers State.
Ahiamadu made his position known in a chat with Aviation correspondents in Port Harcourt last Tuesday shortly before his departure for Abuja.
He noted that the governor’s defection was a wise decision, stressing, “I was elected as ONELGA chairman and if someone comes to take away the things that belong to my people and you expect me to keep quiet?
The chairman remarked that Governor Amaechi had repeatedly said that he had no personal grudge against President Jonathan, saying that the number one citizen should realise that he had lived and worked in Rivers State before moving forward.
“The decision by the Governor to join APC is a welcome development for us and a welcome development for the politics of Nigeria”, he stated, and wondered why the federal government would acknowledge 16 to be greater than 19 in the election of Governors’ Forum Chairman.
On his recent award, the chairman dedicated it to the people of ONELGA and prayed God to give him the strength to serve his people to the best of his ability.
The chairman said his administration had commenced the training of 52 youths in skills acquisition to give them means of livelihood, pointing out that the council was discussing with the companies to retain them after training to better their lives.
He further explained that the council is seeking for partnership with  companies operating in the area but stated that no response had so far been gotten, noting that the existing peaceful environment in the area might be responsible for the refusal of the firms to identify with the council.
On the level of criminality in the area, particularly cases of kidnapping, he said, the council had worked tirelessly to reduce the menace to the barest minimum, adding that for the first time in 10 years, the “Egwu Ogba” festival was held peacefully.
