LAGBUS Ticketing Officer In Court Over Alleged Embezzlement

A LAGBUS ticketing officer, Lukan Toluwalase, 40, was recently arraigned in Lagos over alleged embezzlement of N730,000 invested by his employer.

The accused, who resides at Orimerumu Town, Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, before a Shomolu Magistrate’s Court.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, told the court that Toluwalase had on August 1, at 10.00 a.m., at his employer’s office, located at No. 41, Igbehin-Adun St  Shomolu, collected the money to purchase tickets.

He said the complainant, one Mr Bada Roland, had engaged the services of the defendant to run the ticketing business of Transmodal Nig. Ltd, a LAGBUS franchise, and make returns.

Adegoke also said that the accused was employed to run the ticket business at Transmodal Nig. Ltd., for which he provided a total sum of N730, 000.

“The defendant failed to make available the profit made on sales, and also refused to return the principal amount he collected,” Adegoke said.

He said the offences contravene Section 278 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till January 17, 2014, for mention.
