As the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) strategises towards ensuring free and fair elections in Nigeria, the election unpire has concluded plans to make use of Voter Card Reader (VCR) during the 2015 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commission ( REC), Rivers State, Elder Aniedi A Ikoiwak made this revelation recently to chairmen of political parties in the state during a meeting to mobilise the party chieftains in preparation for 2015.

Ikoiwark used the forum to advise the party stalwarts in the state to desist from campaigning for the 2015 elections and unnecessarily heating up the polity.
He reminded them of the provision of Section 99 (1) of the electoral Act 2010 (as amended) to the effect that “the period of campaigning in public by every Political Party shall commence 90 days before polling day, and end 24 hours prior to that day”.
On their part, the party leaders present at the meeting unanimously expressed their appreciation to the management of INEC, Rivers State, for considering it necessary to brief them early on up-coming INEC activities before the exercise commences.
A total of 23 of the 25 registered political parties duly invited for the meeting were present. Only Independent Democrats (ID) and Peoples’ Democratic Movement (PDM) were absent.
On the part of the state INEC, all Heads of Department led by the Administrative Secretary, Mr Chinedu E. Evurulobi were in attendance.
