Enugu Approves N98m For Upgrade Of Guest House
The Enugu State Executive Council has approved N98 million for upgrading of a state government guest house to a presidential lodge, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, said.
Ugwoke made the disclosure lastThursday in Enugu while briefing journalists at the end of the state’s Executive Council meeting.
The commissioner said that the upgrade was to give dignitaries visiting the state a befitting accommodation.
He said the upgrade would reduce the amount of money spent in lodging government guests in other hotels.
He added that the council had also approved N45 million for the procurement of practical equipment for the School of Midwifery at the Enugu State Teaching Hospital.
“We recall that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s accreditation team visited the school in 2012 and gave a provisional accreditation.
“The team also advised the state government to rectify some observed deficiencies before the 2013/2014 intake of new students.
“The above sum is to cater for the procurement of the needed equipment.’’
Ugwoke said the council had approved a N23 million contract for the implementation of the Health Commodity Supply Component under the 2012 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The essence of the contract was to procure and distribute drugs to health facilities in four local government areas of the state, the commissioner said.
He listed the benefiting council areas to include Ezeagu, Nkanu East, Oji River and Uzo-Uwani, saying other areas would benefit subsequently.
