Constitution: NULGE Tasks NASS On Speedy Amendment

National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ibrahim Khaleel has urged the National Assembly to expedite action on the constitution amendment and ensure the inclusion of the local government autonomy.
Khaleel  who was speaking at a conference organised by the Rivers State chapter of NULGE in Port Harcourt last Wednesday stressed the need for the National Assembly to complete the constitution review exercise before the 2015 elections as a matter of national importance.
The NULGE national president enjoined members of the Rivers State Chapter to work in unison and commended them for resolving the crisis that rocked the union in the recent past, pointing out that the election of new officers at the conference would usher in stability and enable the members to be more focused.
He congratulated the state executive council under the leadership of Barrister Franklin Ajinwo for embarking on a housing project for local government workers in the state.
Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Comrade Godwin Tumini Diri charged the newly elected executive to carry all the members along and work for the progress of the union.
Diri, a former state president of the union, charged the executive to sustain the existing cordial relationship among the members and enjoined losers in the election to take it in good faith.
The state president of the union, Barrister Franklin Ajinwo who was returned unanimously thanked members of the union for their cooperation in the past four years, saying that the misunderstanding that greeted his last executive had been resolved.
He assured that the union would continue to defend and fight for the welfare of the workers, saying that some housing units were being organised for local government workers at Elekahia in Port Harcourt while all approved salaries and wages are fully implemented.
