Community Wants Former DPO Back

Rumuolumeni  community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, and the state Police Commissioner, Mr Mbu, Jospeh Mbu to recall to the community the former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area, Mr Charles Top Ogun, who is on transfer to the Ahoada area command.

The President of the Rumuolumeni Youth Council, Mr Noble Nnamdi Olegele, who briefed newsmen on the transfer of Mr Charles Top Ogun from the division said that the community was not happy that Mr Ogun had been transferred out of the division .

He said that through the effort of the former DPO, crime had reduced in the area, while the community had witnessed good relationship between it and multinationals operating in the area.

The youth president also said that the former DPO must be returned to the community to enable him complete the on-going reconstruction of the Rumuolumeni Police Divisional headquarters which he started.

Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the Rumuolumeni Youth Council, Mr Chinda Felix, said that the community is surprised over the sudden transfer of the Divisional Police Officer from the area inspite of his monumental achievements in the area.

Mr Felix described the DPO as one of the best police officers the area had seen, stressing that since his arrival in the area, crime had reduced, while the area had not witnessed any cases of kidnapping, a situation that had made Rumuolumeni one of the most peaceful divisions in the state.

According to him, the introduction of community policing in the area had enhanced the relationship between the police and the people, a situation that has gone a long way in checking  all forms of criminalities in the area and its environs.

The youth spokesperson said that the outgone DPO must be recalled to enable him complete the new police station he  had started as the project might be abandoned by his successor.

Also  speaking, a community leader in the area, Chief  Collins Wabara, urged the state Police Commissioner, Mr Mbu Josseph Mbu to rescind the decision over the transfer as the people were comfortable with him.

Chief Wabara, who is a chief in Nkpor community described the transfer as very shocking and urged the police authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding it.

The traditional ruler noted that Mr Charles Top Ogun must be recalled to enable him complete the work he has started on the new police station.

Mr Charles Top Ogun a Superintendent of Police was behind the new police station in Rumuolumeni which has 14 officers, an Armoury  and two cells and conveniences.
