The interim Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Davies Ikanya, has urged the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to advise the lawmaker representing Ogu/Bolo Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Evans Bipi to strictly abide by the tenets of democracy in the  interest of peace and progress of the state.

Bipi, in company of some youths last Friday insisted that he was the authentic Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

Ikanya made the call last Saturday in a telephone interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.

The APC leader expressed disappointment over the conduct of the lawmaker, whom he (Ikanya) said, lacked the basic knowledge of democratic norms and values and impeachment process in a democratic setting.

Ikanya regretted that his constituents never really investigated him (Bipi) before imposing him on the electorate of his constituency.

“Most disappointing is the fact that Hon Bipi does not even know that to impeach a leader, two third of the House must support the move”, he lamented.

Ikanya said notwithstanding the political crisis in the state and Nigeria in general, an educated person should be conscious about  anything that would likely cause the breakdown of law and order in the state.

He called on politicians to shun thuggery, saying that Nigeria, in the 14 years of its Third Republic, had grown beyond thuggery politics to achieve their aspirations.

According to him, Nigerians including Rivers people would only be convinced with the development initiative put in place by Governor Amaechi to change the lives of people and not by using thugs for selfish interest.
