Amaechi Urges Communities To Rescue Environment
Governor Chibuike Amaechi and Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) says time has come for all citizens to join in the crusade to rescue the environment.
Speaking to newsmen shortly before participating in the CARNIRIV street procession on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rt. Hon Amaechi explained that this year’s carnival theme “Our Environment: Bedrock for Sustainable Development; Green World” is aimed at salvaging the environment.
He stated that considering the negative impact of technology on the environment it is high time the citizenry become proactive on issues affecting the environment, “yes we need technology to be able to grow but it has brought about climate change”.
Amaechi said there was urgent need to reverse the effect of climate change in order to avert any disaster in the future, “You need to address human existence and if you are not careful. So we are going to what it used to be like in the natural environment”.
Amaechi had last Thursday told a forum of medical doctors in Government House that his administration unveiled the yearly Rivers Carnival as a way of salvaging the economy which was almost running aground due to militancy and insecurity prior to his government.
The governor affirmed that the economy of the state has been revived and investors confidence restored, stating that, CANIRIV was organized to bring back the voice and interest of Rivers people”.
