A’Ibom Restates Commitment To Affordable Healthcare
The Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensure affordable and accessible health care system in the state.
This information is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Ememabasi Bassey, in Eket last Monday.
The statement stated that Bassey made this known when he inspected facilities at the Psychiatric hospital in Eket.
Bassey said he was touched by the dilapidated state of the amenities in the hospital, adding that the hospital would be considered in the next phase of renovation of health facilities in the state.
“In view of the peculiarity of the patients in the hospital, we are going to provide quality amenities that would not be easily destroyed by the patients.
“We have a governor whose priority is the health sector, and we will make sure that the dream of the governor for the people is achieved,’’ he said.
Earlier, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Mfon Ibanga, said the hospital was faced with a lot of challenges, which include lack of portable water, beds and mattresses, toilets, among others.
“We need the help of government as soon as possible because things are not well with us because of the numerous challenges facing the hospital,” he said.
