216 Rivers Youths For Abuja Games
About 216 athletes
from Rivers State are expected to storm Abuja tomorrow for the maiden edition of the National Under-17 Youth Games scheduled to kick-off 5th December, 2013.
A total of 6,414 athletes and coaches are also expected at the youth tournament.
Head of Coaching Department, Rivers State Sports Council, Ezekiel Ordu, who disclosed this yesterday in an interview with Tidesports at the Alfred Diette Spiff Sports Complex, said that, a two- day screening exercise was held to ensure that athletes were in the stipulated age bracket for the games.
According to him, the exercise which was headed by the chairman of National School Sports Federation and other heads of departments of the council was successful and satisfactory.
Tidesports gathered that 10 sporting associations from Rivers State are participating in the competition.
They include Badminton, boxing, handball (male), para-power lifting, squash, table tennis, tack mondo, tennis, field and track weight lifting and wrestling.
It would be recalled that football,basketball, volleyball and handball female were knocked out during the zonal elimination competition.
